How Much Does Drain Cleaning Cost?
Snaking a drain is $185 standard, and right now we have a $99 special running. Mention it when you call.

Kitchen Lines
What Causes Kitchen Drain Clogs?
Grease, in nearly every case. You don't have to pour a pan of bacon fat down the sink to cause it. Everyday cooking and dishwashing leave a little grease behind each time.
Think about how long that line has been in service: 30, 40, even 70 years. That is decades of grease coating the inside of the pipe, and eventually it closes the line off.
Main Lines
What Causes Main Line Backups?
Tissue, roots or a broken line. Of the three, roots are what we find most often when a main line backs up.
Roots usually enter clay sewer pipe at the banded joints, where two sections meet. ABS pipe with glued joints rarely gives them a way in.
Some older main lines are Orangeburg, a pipe made of tar and paper, and a cable can punch straight through its wall. There is no way to know a line is Orangeburg without running a camera down it. Here is what Orangeburg pipe is and why it fails.
Showers are simpler. When a shower backs up on its own, the cause is usually hair.
Snake vs. Jetter
Is Hydrojetting Better Than Snaking?
Yes, every time. A snake mostly just punches a hole through the clog. Putting a blade on the cable helps, but a blade can snap off and lodge inside the pipe.
Hydrojetting works differently. Our jetter pushes water at up to 4,000 PSI and 12 gallons a minute, which works on nearly any clog and is the right tool for built-up grease and roots. It cuts the grease loose and flushes it out to the main or the city sewer, and it cuts through most roots.
The exception is a root mass the size of a tree trunk. At that point the pipe has to be dug up and replaced with a spot repair.

How Often Do Tree Roots Grow Back?
About 6 months after we clear them. Clearing roots restores flow, but it doesn't keep them out.
Roots are the most common cause of clogged main lines we see. Upland is a good example: the city planted large trees along its main streets, and their roots spread deep and wide. Once they find a sewer pipe, the sewage feeds them. Any yard with a tree is at risk, and we clear roots in Rancho Cucamonga, Claremont and Fontana too.
The only permanent fix is to replace the sewer line or line it. We cover both on our sewer line repair page.
DIY Drain Cleaners
Is Drano Safe for My Pipes?
No. Liquid drain cleaners like Drano are harsh chemicals that eat at pipes. Pour them down a drain and they go to work on your pipes too. These products don't really work, and they can make the clog worse.
It also makes the repair harder. When we arrive, the sink is full of chemical water, and that splashes onto hands and into eyes. We don't recommend liquid drain cleaners for any clog.
Older Homes
How Often Should an Older Home's Main Line Be Cleaned?
If your home still has its old cast iron, have the line hydrojetted once every 1 to 3 years. If you skip the jetting, at minimum have it inspected with a camera that often.
Cast iron gives about 50 years before it starts rotting from the bottom, where waste runs constantly. The camera lets us see what shape the pipe is in. Here is what a yearly sewer camera inspection looks for.
Cleanouts
What If My House Has No Cleanout?
Then there's no direct way into your sewer line. With no entry point, a snake or jetter has to go in some other way, and neither option is good.
One is pulling a toilet. If the house is backed up, all that sewage rushes out of the lowest opening, which is the toilet flange. The other is the roof vent, but many vents have hard 90-degree fittings that a cable can barely pass, if at all.
Homes from the 1950s and 60s often have no cleanouts. We see a lot of them in Upland, Claremont and the older parts of Rancho Cucamonga. Adding a cleanout typically costs $850 to $4,000 or more, depending on where it goes and the size of the pipe.
On the Job
What Happens When a Drain Line Has Rotted Out?
The job grows. We had an older home in the Etiwanda area of Rancho Cucamonga, near Etiwanda High School, with no cleanouts. We hydrojetted the kitchen line from the roof, and dirt came up in the kitchen sink. That told us the pipe had rotted through.
Replacing the kitchen line meant jackhammering and trenching about 30 feet across the kitchen to the nearest bathroom, where we tied into the branch line. When we opened the branch line, it was full of dirt too. We tried to jet it, and pieces of it started breaking away. It had rotted out as well.
