How We Work

Why Choose Regal?

Free Camera After We Clear It

On a drain call we cable the line first, then we typically run a camera through it free of charge as a courtesy, so you can see why it backed up.

Shielded Bands, Not Rubber

On sewer repairs we typically use a heavy-duty Husky band with a full metal shield, not the rubber Fernco band held on by two hose clamps.

30 Minutes to an Hour on Emergencies

A real person answers around the clock, and we can typically reach an emergency call within 30 minutes to an hour.

1-Year Warranty on Labor

Our labor comes with a 1-year warranty. Anything we note on your invoice as not covered by warranty isn't included.

Pricing

How Much Does a Tankless Water Heater Cost to Install?

A typical tankless installation runs $2,000 to $5,000. The application decides where your job falls in that range, along with whatever the site needs before the new unit can go in.

Every install we supply includes a thermal expansion tank and a sediment trap. Estimates on new installs are free, and financing is available.

Lifespan

How Long Does a Tankless Water Heater Last?

Most tankless units last 10 to 20 years. Maintenance is what separates a unit that reaches 20 from one that struggles at 10.

Tankless technology has come a long way over the last 15 years. Early units were overbuilt and arrived before the technology had settled. Current models are dependable when they are installed right and kept up.

Repairs

What Goes Wrong With a Tankless Water Heater?

The most common tankless failure we see is a leaking heat exchanger. Fixing it means taking the unit apart, installing a new heat exchanger and rebuilding it, which takes 3 to 6 hours and runs $800 to $2,000.

Igniter trouble is the other common call. When the ignition coils stop throwing a strong enough spark, we open the unit and clean them.

A tankless heater has far more components than a tank, so there are more places for a problem to start.

Maintenance

Does a Tankless Water Heater Need Maintenance?

Yes, once a year. A descaling solution has to be run through the unit to clear the scale out, and most owners are never told.

We are regularly called to tankless units giving trouble around year 5. When we ask when the unit was last descaled, the answer is usually that the owner didn't know it needed it.

Hard water destroys tankless units. At a minimum, put a sediment filter in front of the unit so sediment never gets inside. We recommend a water softener on every tankless install.

Some owners decide not to wait for the next failure. We recently replaced a tankless unit whose parts were still under warranty, because the homeowner wanted a brand-new unit with a water softener and filtration combo in front of it so the problems would stop.

We see a lot of tankless units in Ontario, where the newer tracts near the Buzzers minor league stadium are mostly PEX with tankless water heaters, and the city water is very hard.

Large Households

Is a Tankless Water Heater Worth It for a Big Family?

For a large household, yes. A tankless unit heats water as you use it, so whoever showers last during the morning rush gets the same hot water as whoever went first.

The water stays as hot at the end of a long shower as it was at the start. If your family has ever run a tank dry before everyone got through, this is the problem tankless solves.

A tank still has real advantages, and we install both. Our water heater repair and replacement page covers tank units.

Tank vs. Tankless

How Does a Tankless Compare to a Tank?

The lifespans overlap. A tankless unit lasts 10 to 20 years depending on maintenance, and a standard tank lasts about 10 to 15.

The installed prices overlap. A typical tankless install runs $2,000 to $5,000 depending on the application, and a standard 40 to 50 gallon tank replacement runs $2,100 to $2,800.

A tank is the simpler machine. Fewer parts can fail, upkeep costs much less, and if your water supply is ever shut off you still have a full tank on hand. A tankless unit asks for a yearly descaling in return for hot water that doesn't run out.

Brands

Which Tankless Brands Do You Install?

We are certified installers for Noritz and Navien, and we offer top-quality brands on every new tankless install.

Brand matters on a tankless unit. Some brands bring us far more frequent repair calls than others, and a cheap water heater tends to come with problems.

Venting

Why Does Tankless Venting Matter?

A tankless unit is forced air, not atmospheric, so its venting has to be right and airtight. Venting that is wrong or leaks can push carbon monoxide into the space you live in.

Venting is one of the first things we check on a tankless unit someone else installed.
