What Kind of Plumbing Do Ontario Homes Have?
It depends on the neighborhood. Off the 60 freeway, and along Philadelphia, Haven and Mission, many homes were built in the 1950s and 60s. Most of them sit on slab, some on raised foundations, and the drains under those slabs are mostly cast iron. Older commercial buildings in Ontario have cast iron and galvanized pipe too.
The newer neighborhoods are a different story. Around the new minor league ballpark, home of the Buzzers, most homes are plumbed with PEX and have tankless water heaters.

Why Is Cast Iron Failing Under Ontario Homes?
Age. Cast iron gives about 50 years before it starts rotting out, and it goes from the bottom of the pipe, where waste runs through it every day. Left long enough, the pipe dissolves.

What Is the Water Pressure in Ontario?
An Ontario home without a working regulator typically runs 90 to 100 PSI. We set every regulator to 65 to 70 PSI, which is where your fixtures are meant to run.

What Does Replacing an Orangeburg Sewer Line Cost?
On one Ontario job, about $13,000. The main line from the house to the street was Orangeburg, a pipe made of tar and paper that was put in around World War II as the next big thing. It doesn't hold up. We replaced a run of about 90 feet.

What Went Wrong on a Newer Home Near the Ballpark?
A fitting on the main line. The house, one of the newer builds next to the ballpark, had a 1 1/4-inch PVC main with a tee that branched off to the sprinklers, and the tee failed.
We dug down about 2 feet right next to the meter and reconfigured the piping. That job came to about $1,300.
