Who Installs Moen Flo Smart Water Shutoffs?
We do. Regal Plumbing & Rooter is a Moen partner, and we have held Moen-registered installer status for going on 2 years. We install the Moen Flo smart water shutoff for homeowners who call us directly and through insurance-sponsored programs. The valve goes on your main water line, shuts the water off on its own when it detects a problem, and lets you turn the water off and back on from your phone.

What We Cover
Services We Provide
Installation
We mount the valve at the main riser where your whole-house shutoff is, ideally inside the garage.
App Setup and Testing
Before we leave, we help set up the app on your phone and test the shutoff by turning the valve off and back on from it.
Pressure Regulators
The valves are rated for 80 PSI max. When a regulator is bad or missing, we put in a new one as part of the install.
How We Work
Why Choose Regal?
Free Camera After We Clear It
On a drain call we cable the line first, then we typically run a camera through it free of charge as a courtesy, so you can see why it backed up.
Shielded Bands, Not Rubber
On sewer repairs we typically use a heavy-duty Husky band with a full metal shield, not the rubber Fernco band held on by two hose clamps.
30 Minutes to an Hour on Emergencies
A real person answers around the clock, and we can typically reach an emergency call within 30 minutes to an hour.
1-Year Warranty on Labor
Our labor comes with a 1-year warranty. Anything we note on your invoice as not covered by warranty isn't included.

Pricing
How Much Does Smart Water Shutoff Installation Cost?
On a 3/4-inch main, installation typically runs $400 to $800. A 1-inch line adds about $200, which puts it at roughly $600 to $1,000.
A 1 1/2-inch line runs about $900 to $1,500. These prices are for the installation only; the Moen Flo device itself is not included.
Timing
How Long Does a Smart Water Shutoff Install Take?
Most installs take 1 to 3 hours. Where a job lands in that range depends on how much work the main needs.
It runs longer when the entire buildup at the main has to be replaced, or when the home needs a new pressure regulator because the existing one is bad or there isn't one at all. Our water pressure regulator page explains what that part does.
Location
Where Should a Moen Flo Be Installed?
On the main water riser at the front of the house, the same spot as your whole-house shutoff. Inside the garage is the ideal spot.
If your home already has a water softener or reverse osmosis system, we can put the valve on the incoming water line that feeds it. That is the best location of all.
The valves are rated for 80 PSI max, which is one reason a working pressure regulator matters on these installs.
Requirements
What Does My Home Need for a Smart Water Shutoff?
Power and Wi-Fi at the install location. The Wi-Fi signal has to reach the valve, so stand where it will go and check your phone: you want at least 2 bars.
Buying your own device? The size also has to match your main line, which we cover next.
Sizing
Which Size Moen Flo Do I Need?
The one that matches your main line. Moen currently makes two units. The smaller one is built for 3/4-inch lines and also fits a 1-inch line with a different adapter. The larger one is built for 1 1/4-inch mains and also fits 1 1/2-inch.
There is no Moen unit for a main larger than 1 1/2 inch yet. The larger unit costs roughly $300 more than the smaller one, so measure before you order.
Buying the wrong size usually costs you a headache and not much else: you return it and get the right one. Before you buy, check the pipe size, power and Wi-Fi at the spot, and where the valve will go. We walk through it in which size Moen Flo fits your main water line.
Insurance
Can My Insurance Require an Automatic Water Shutoff?
Some carriers do. We worked with a homeowner in North Fontana, in the new condos above the 210 off Sierra near Duncan Canyon Road, whose insurance carrier would only underwrite the policy if the home had an automatic water shutoff.
They bought the smaller unit, but the home has a 1 1/4-inch main, which takes the larger one. If your carrier is asking for a shutoff, confirm the size of your main line before you order the device.
Install Day
What Happens on Install Day?
Once the valve is in, we help you set up the app on your phone. Then we test the automatic shutoff by turning the valve off from your phone and turning it back on, so you know it works before we leave.
Protection
Does a Smart Water Shutoff Really Prevent Flooding?
Yes. Many customers we installed one for have called us back later for a burst pipe, and in those cases the valve had already detected the leak and shut off the water before it did significant damage.
The Moen Flo can also run a micro leak test every night. That test can catch small leaks, like a slab leak under the foundation, that can slowly work their way up and ruin a home's interior before anyone knows. If a pipe has already failed, see our burst pipe repair page.
It also reads your water pressure. The day after we installed a Moen device for one customer, he called us because it was showing 170 PSI. We went back out and found the water heater had no thermal expansion tank. Our water pressure regulator page explains what pressure that high does to a home.
DIY Installs
What Are Common Mistakes on DIY Installs?
Putting the valve in the wrong place. We have seen smart water shutoffs installed on a hot water line and on a sprinkler line, where they do nothing to protect the house.
