For plumbing, Fontana splits at Baseline. Old Fontana is roughly everything south of it, with many homes from the 1950s and 60s. New Fontana sits north of it, where a lot of homes are still being built.
We serve all of Fontana from our shop in Ontario, and we can typically reach an emergency within 30 minutes to an hour. Our Fontana work is a mix of sewer problems, slab leaks and water heaters, and which one you get depends a lot on when your house was built.

Fontana Homes
Where Is Old Fontana and Where Is New Fontana?
Baseline is the line we use. Old Fontana is more or less everything south of Baseline, and that is where most of the homes from the 1950s and 60s are. New Fontana is north of Baseline, where a lot of new homes are still going up.
The plumbing follows the age of the house. In the newest North Fontana homes, we aren't doing many repairs yet. In old Fontana, the original pipe is reaching the end of its life.
Galvanized Pipe
Why Do Older Fontana Homes Need Repiping?
Because they were plumbed with galvanized pipe. Fontana homes from the '50s and '60s, mostly south of Baseline, still have galvanized piping, so a lot of our work there is whole-house repipes and water service replacements.
A typical whole-house repipe runs $10,000 to $20,000. Our pipe repair and repiping page covers how we replace old galvanized lines.
Slab Leaks
Which Fontana Homes Are Getting Slab Leaks?
Homes built from the '70s through the early 2000s. Houses from the '70s, '80s, '90s and early 2000s are starting to show slab leaks, and the '70s homes are the most prone.
In North Fontana, we fix them by rerouting: we abandon the leaking line under the slab and run a new PEX line up and over, usually through the attic. A reroute generally runs $3,000 to $5,000. We don't jackhammer the slab unless there is no other way, for example in a house with vaulted ceilings.
The causes are the same ones we see across the area: thin Type M soft copper, very hard water, years of small shifts from tremors and earthquakes, and high water pressure. One slab leak usually means another is not far behind. See how we find them on our slab leak detection page.
Hard Water
Does Fontana Have Hard Water?
Yes, and there is no avoiding it. Every part of Fontana, old and new, has hard water.
The minerals clog fixtures, wear out water heaters early and eat away at copper pipe faster than softened water does, which also feeds slab leaks. A whole-home water softener and filtration system is the way to protect them. For the water heater itself, see our Fontana water heater page.
Sewer Lines
What Causes Sewer Backups in Older Fontana Homes?
Mostly roots. In the older part of Fontana, roots grow into the hub joints of clay sewer pipe. The sewage feeds them, so they keep getting bigger until they separate or break the pipe. Inside homes built before the '70s, the cast iron is often rotted out and heavily scaled, which causes repeat backups too.
Clearing the roots buys you about 6 months before they grow back. Once a root has a way in, the only permanent fix is to line the pipe or replace it. Our sewer line repair page explains both, and drain cleaning in Fontana covers clearing a backed-up line.
On the Job
Why Did a North Fontana Condo Need a Bigger Moen Flo?
Because the main was bigger than the device. The condo is in the new North Fontana development above the 210, off Sierra near Duncan Canyon Road. The owner's insurance carrier would only underwrite the policy if an automatic water shutoff went on the system.
The owner bought the smaller unit, which is made for 3/4-inch and 1-inch lines. The home has a 1 1/4-inch main, so it needed the larger unit. A mismatch like that usually costs nothing but a return and a reorder, but the larger unit runs about $300 more.
We break down the sizes in which size Moen Flo fits my main water line, and our smart water shutoff installation page covers the install itself.
